Classical Chinese Philosophy

This course is an introduction to Classical Chinese Philosophy in the Pre-Qin period, before the unification of China in 221 BCE. We will explore the four major systems of thought that deeply informed subsequent Chinese culture: Confucianism, Mohism, Daoism, and Legalism. Topics include filial piety, government, wellbeing, knowledge, human nature, and so on. No previous background in Chinese or philosophy is required.
